Pillar Five
Human
Capital
What’s your staff turnover like?
How’s your compliance with labour laws?
Do you hire slow and fire fast?
HR. Put simply, it’s all about your people!
What is your company’s most valuable resource? If your immediate answer isn’t your people, you’re either running a business completely powered by AI, or you haven’t unlocked the full power of your human capital yet.
Human capital has three core functions:
THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN
Effective HR needs to boost your human resources capability. It should help you do more than merely ‘hiring and firing’ the right people. That starts before the first interview though. Clear job requirements, defined outputs and successes, knowing (and reviewing) KPIs… This must all be known before you consider a candidate’s skills, cultural fit and remuneration expectations.
THE RIGHT STUFF OUT
Everybody wants that elusive “motivated, high-performance team of happy individuals.” A well designed HR programme will unlock your peoples’ potential and is your best bet for that dream. This includes proper training and mentoring, regular performance discussions, soft skills workshops, incentives and hybrid working models. The labour landscape is changing. Are you?
THE WRONG STUFF OUT
Nothing frustrates a business’s strategy as much as not having capacity and capability where it is needed. Whether someone’s outputs are wrong, or they themselves are not the right fit, action is needed. Everybody has their place in the world. But not everybody needs to keep their place in yours.
